How I Got Into Forbes (By Flying My Freak Flag)

The good news for those of you looking for media coverage is that my story isn't as complicated or drawn out as one might think! I was in the business coaching time of my life where I helped people with their mindset primarily helping them work through fear and find their confidence. I remember thinking such a random thought while tidying up my bedroom..."Wouldn't it be amazing to get into Forbes"?

Your Thoughts Matter

I didn't think much of it and went on with my day with all my other thoughts (typical of an ADHD entrepreneur). I had come across a woman I heard great things about and began to look up to her as a business woman. Cheryl was as sharp as a tack but also kind and genuine. A combination I was aching for in my life in a female role model.

I asked her if she'd like to go to lunch and to my excitement she said yes! I remember practicing the art of being my authentic self that day. I had been so used to feeling like I needed to alter who I was to survive in a man's business world but this time I thought, "I'm going to wear a dress". Not a business suit with a skirt, but a feminine flowey dress.

"Remember Who You Are" (More Than A Cute Phrase)

The afternoon arrives and I show up all kinds of joyful and bubbly reminding myself "Victoria, just be you. No pitching, not pretending, no worrying whether I'm liked or not."

What came of that several hour soul-connecting chat was a beautiful sisterly bond. (I see this in men too. When their authentic and confident they create an incredible brotherhood).

I shared that I had been using intuition in my business and contemplating if others think there's really a place for it. Was I kinda whacky woo-woo or what? I'm not sure I would've changed a thing had she said I was whacky woo-woo, but still, I wanted to know her thoughts.

Social Experiment Turns Life-Changer

I let her know that I had done a part social/ part personal experiment that entailed flying my freak flag nice and high! I told her I was listening to any "prompting"/ intuitive thought I had no matter how whackadoodle it seemed. I was committed to not ignoring that little voice that says "Go up to this person and say hi", "call that friend that keeps coming to mind", "post that blog" ;)

I explained that my life was changing for the better as I began this new practice. To my surprise I didn't sense an ounce of judgement. As a matter of fact she invited me to write about it.

What If I'm Not Good Enough

I poured my heart out for this write up, filled it with personal anecdotes and my summary of my findings. I recall being concerned because the article was written much like this blog. No AI, no English professor checking it, nada.  Just me, a keyboard and a heart full of passion for something new I learned that I wanted to share.

She said she wanted to immediately put it in Forbes. I recall specifically asking if it wasn't "Forbes- worthy" due to my casual style of writing. She said it's perfect and put together not only an article but a video interview with me as well.

I was elated, I was overjoyed and I was reminded that being me, is the best thing about me. My word of advice is to find your strengths and do what feels joyful to you.

In A World Of Fake, We Need You

For myself, its sharing the things I learn in the world of psychology. From blogs to articles, to online courses to branding businesses. I will also preach that you ought to show personality in your brand. I am here to ask you all the right questions to get that personality into visuals, copywriting, a website and even apparel.

It's what I do. It's what I love.
